‘Ilm: Art and Knowledge in Islam, Art Gallery of South Australia, 20 July 2016 – 8 January 2017

The ‘Ilm: Art and Knowledge in Islam display reflects on the variety of ways through which historical and contemporary Muslim artists have explored understanding and knowledge in Islamic societies. The diverse selection of media, including paintings, textiles, ceramic and metalwork, created in the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia and Australia, testify to the significance of ‘ilm in religious belief.

The display is presented in conjunction with the international conference ‘Ilm: Science, Religion and Art in Islam (20-23 July 2016) presented by the Centre for Asian and Middle-Eastern Architecture (CAMEA), The University of Adelaide.
